Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) is the leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide, but it doesn’t have to be.
In the run up to the publication of the WOMAN-2 Trial results, the WOMAN Trials collaborators are launching the MISSING campaign, which aims to highlight what’s missing in maternal care and how we can prevent more women from being missing from their families and communities because of conditions that can be prevented and treated.
The campaign will highlight the importance of detecting and treating maternal anaemia, a major risk factor for PPH, and call for tranexamic acid (TXA) to be made available to all women, wherever they give birth, for the treatment of PPH. The WOMAN-2 Trial will determine whether TXA can also be used to prevent women with severe or moderate anaemia from developing PPH in the first place.
