“Our women are different”: The link between anaemia and maternal mortality in Nigeria

While working on the WOMAN Trial, he presciently recognised the significance of chronic and severe maternal anaemia in Nigeria and its negative impact on postpartum haemorrhage and maternal mortality.

Seven years later, and almost at the conclusion of the WOMAN-2 Trial, we now have the evidence showing that anaemia increases the risk of death and severe complications for women in childbirth and their babies.
